Doja Cat at Golden 1: the Tuesday way back to Davis
Doors 6:30, show 7:30, Tuesday Oct 20 at Golden 1 Center. From Davis the way there is easy. Getting home on a weeknight is the part to plan first.

Doja Cat plays Golden 1 Center on Tuesday, October 20, on the Tour Ma Vie World Tour. The venue's listing gives doors at 6:30pm and the show at 7:30pm, at 500 David J Stern Walk in downtown Sacramento; its end stamp reads 11:59pm — the outside edge of the night, not a set time. (Golden 1 Center)
Now read the day. It is a Tuesday, and that decides more about your night than the stage time does. Davis to downtown Sacramento on a weekday evening is the easy half. The way back is the half that quietly runs out while you are inside.
Pick the last departure first
Choose the latest minute you can leave downtown, then choose how you get there. October 20 is a Tuesday, so every timetable below means the weekday column.
The train is the quickest way in, and the first to finish
Sacramento Valley Station is at 401 I Street at 5th, and Capitol Corridor's own events page puts the arena a six-minute, 0.3-mile walk away (Sports & Entertainment). Westbound, the ride is barely a ride: the weekday table in force today schedules Sacramento into Davis at sixteen minutes (Capitol Corridor).
Here is the problem. On the weekday westbound timetable in force today, the last train out of Sacramento leaves at 9:03pm and reaches Davis at 9:19pm; the one before it leaves at 7:03pm (Capitol Corridor). The show starts at 7:30. One train goes before the lights go down, the next goes long before the end. Check the table the week of the show, but do not plan on the train bringing you home.
That is not a knock on the train. Sixteen minutes to Davis is one of the genuinely good things about living here. It is a knock on the hours.
Yolobus 42A runs later — and does not board where the timetable says
Yolobus's intercity loop has a stop called L & 5th (Golden 1 Center).
- Out: Route 42B runs the loop counter-clockwise — Woodland, Davis, West Sacramento, downtown — hourly, seven days a week, picking up on campus at the UC Davis Memorial Union.
- Back: Route 42A is the same loop clockwise, so 42A is the direction that carries you from downtown to the Memorial Union.
As published today, the last weekday 42A leaves L & 5th at 10:57pm and reaches the Memorial Union at 11:50pm (Route 42A). Against a 7:30 start, that is an actual way home rather than a decision to leave mid-set.
One catch, the kind that strands people. SacRT lists the L Street stop at 5th as closed during Golden 1 Center events, and sends riders to L Street at 9th instead (SacRT). The stop printed on the timetable is not the stop you wait at on a show night. Walk the four blocks early, and check both pages the week of the show.
Driving down: the pass has a clock on it
Golden 1 Center runs no lots of its own. It points you at pre-paid passes through the City of Sacramento's SacPark site, and the garages tied to the arena open two hours before the event. (Directions & Parking)
One line matters more after a late show: a pre-purchased pass is good until two hours after the event. Spaces are first-come, first-served, a specific garage "is subject to availability and is not guaranteed", and there is no shuttle from the downtown garages — you walk in and out via 5th & J, 7th & K or 5th & L.
Once you are already downtown
SacRT's light rail stops sit about a block from the arena, depending which line you rode in on, and you board somewhere different going home, because the trains run on one-way streets downtown (SacRT). A last mile inside Sacramento, not a way home.
Or go with someone who is already going
Cars will drive Davis to downtown Sacramento that Tuesday evening and drive back after, most with empty seats both ways.
That is what TAGO is for: a carpool for students. Sign in with your .edu email, say
where you are going, and see who else is going the same way. No fleet and no dispatcher —
students with a car and students without one, sharing the cost of a trip that was happening
anyway.
Two things matter on a school night:
The way back is planned with the way out. For events and places the return leg is part of the same plan, settled in the afternoon rather than in the concourse at eleven.
Your share has a ceiling. What a rider contributes can never exceed the IRS standard mileage rate for the day of the trip — a legal cap on cost-sharing, enforced in the code behind every trip rather than promised in an ad. Past the first eight miles the per-mile rate eases down. How ride costs split walks through it.
Nobody can tell you a car will be there. Whether one exists depends on who is going that night, which is why posting early beats searching late. The Doja Cat at Golden 1 on TAGO page shows how many people are going; routes and names stay private until you sign in with your .edu.
Before you buy the ticket
- Hold 9:03pm against a 7:30 start. If the train cannot bring you home, a car belongs in the plan — a decision for today, not for 11pm.
- Taking the bus? Wait at L & 9th, not at the L & 5th the timetable names.
- Driving? Buy the SacPark pass ahead — it stops being valid two hours after the event.
- Bags: clutches and wallets smaller than 8" x 6" x 1", subject to inspection; medical and parental bags go through the X-ray. (Golden 1 Center) A day pack is not getting in, and there is nowhere to leave it.
- Agree a meeting point before you go in.
